Happy New Year

A New Year's Prayer

Dear Master for this coming year
Just one request I bring:
I do not pray for happiness,
Or any earthly thing—
I do not ask to understand
The way Thou leadest me,
But this I ask: Teach me to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.

I want to know Thy guiding voice,
To walk with Thee each day.
Dear Master make me swift to hear
And ready to obey.
And thus the year I now begin
A happy year will be—
If I am seeking just to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.

Welcome to the website of the Allison Avenue Baptist Church. We're located at 5915 Allison Avenue, in Hamilton, Ohio, and have been ministering to our community for over 50 years. The church’s philosophy can be summed up in the following statement, “The church with a vision for the world…and a focus on you.” We’re delighted that you found us on the web, for in all likelihood, that is precisely what you had to do – be very intentional in finding us.

The American poet Robert Frost penned the following words in his famous poem, Yellow Wood“The Road Less Traveled.” ''Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could . . . Then took the other, as just as fair, and having the better claim because it was grassy and wanted wear . . . Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -  I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”

photo of church sanctuaryWe would like to invite you to come and visit with us some Sunday, and if you make that choice, you will probably, very literally, have to be as intentional about finding us then as you were in finding us on the Web today. The reason is that our church facilities are not visible from any of the main highways in Hamilton. Our location is literally on a place “…off the beaten path.” Additionally, although you may not realize it, if you choose to join us some Sunday, you will also be taking a spiritual trip “…off the beaten path.”

The Bible speaks about the spiritually beaten path. “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man but the end thereof are the ways of death.'' (Prov 14:2). The Lord Jesus said, ''Wide is the gate and broad the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait Gate(contrary to natural inclinations) is the gate and narrow (constricted by challenge and difficulty) is the way, which leadeth to life, and few there be that find it.'' (Mat 7:13-14).

And remember, even if you find the building, the church is not the buildings, it is the people who individually represent the “lively stones” that God is in the process of building into a “spiritual house” (1 Peter 2:5). Today you found the website, we hope at some point you will find the church, but even better than that, that you will find the “Way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6) offered to you through faith in Jesus Christ. We invite you to join us, “Off the beaten path” and, “On the narrow road.'' Find for yourself what a difference it will make.
